I have a BA in English from Haverford College and a minor in film from Bryn Mawr College. Filmmaking, more than any art form, mimics the human psyche. This fascinating area of study led me to explore how we consume media, how we replicate ourselves in media, and how through media we borrow ideas to cultivate our identities. My background in film improved my writing for it more tangibly trained me to actively gauge for deadweight, timing, and momentum. I’m constantly asking myself is the audience engaged? Am I connecting with them?
In my transition from academic writing to corporate writing, I’ve found that its core, both types of writing require the binding force of narrative to compel people to connect with an author’s or business owner’s ideas. Copywriting is perhaps more forceful in its purpose which is to connect the company’s mission to its audience and persuade them to take action- whether it mean buying a product or quite simply, choosing to believe in the story that the brand represents. I have experience in researching, editing, blogging, grant writing, screenwriting, and web copy.
