My writing is like an outlet. What are thoughts and feelings but energy? All of it gets stored up and needs a place to go. What better place than a page? A simple sheet of paper is my lamp. And the ideas flow freely out into the world. But when no lamp has been plugged in for a while the energy can build up, culminating in something catastrophic. To avoid a blown circuit I must seek out releases for this source of infinite thoughts spewing from my brain and sometimes that very outlet is my writing. Whether the thing to plug in be a sheet of paper, an open word document, or even the dry side of a diner napkin, feelings, thoughts, and ideas stream without restriction into the dark and scary world, making my mind, the world, and everything a bit brighter

We began our class together by exploring a metaphor for who we are as writers. Each student crafted a short piece that explained a metaphor for his or her writing process and created a website using About.me to share that process. Now it is time to return to those initial sites we created and link to them our exemplary writing pieces from this semester.
