He is a young professional with a passion to serve adults and he believes in the power of higher education and student support. It was during his teaching and graduate assistantships that he developed a commitment to working with and developing adults in higher education. He worked 2 years in the Office of Student Support Services, serving low- income and first generation students. It is in this position where he decided that the field of higher education was his element of desire.
His passion for helping students develop their “genius” eventually led him to the UT-Knoxville, where he completed his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration. While pursuing his degree, he complemented his academic endeavors by acquiring professional experiences in the Student affairs and Academic Affairs realms. He spent 5 years in the Office of Minority Student Affairs/Black Cultural Center at UT focusing on diversity initiatives, cultural awareness, graduate student support, campus programming, and leadership development. He also spent 2.5 years as the Coordinator (III ) for Recruitment & Retention/Academic Advising in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences at UT-Knoxville.
It was in this role where he advised undergraduate and graduate students, coordinated recruitment/retention initiatives for the academic departments in the college, and worked on diversity initiatives. He currently serves as the Director of Graduate Student Mentoring & Success at North Carolina State University in College of Education, where he also has an Assistant Teaching Professor appointment in the Higher Education Administration program.
His academic pursuits are/have been in the areas of: Graduate Student Development and Success, Multicultural Issues, Undergraduate Student Support & Success, Communication & Life Skills Development, and Cultural Centers at PWIs. His future professional plans are to accept an upper level administrative position that will allow him to serve students as an administrator and college instructor
