Riaan Den Haan

After completing a PhD in molecular microbiology at Stellenbosch University in 2003, I was employed as a senior researcher in the fields of yeast biotechnology and metabolic engineering. This allowed me to build extensive research experience and collaborations with researchers in Finland and the USA. After accepting a lecturing position at UWC I've maintained close ties with former collaborators, while cultivating new partnerships with researchers in Japan and China. The main focus of my research is the development of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae for the production of valuable productssuch as fuels, chemicals or enzymes.
