Social Media, Community Engagement, and Digital Media Strategist in Los Angeles, California

Based in Los Angeles, Denise is a veteran of numerous seminal community media, educational, and social justice organizations in New York, including Paper Tiger Television, Educational Video Center, Downtown Community Center (DCTV), Global Action Project, The New York Department of Education, The New York Institute of Technology, Firelight Media, and the Apollo Theater. Creating and engaging in communities online and offline is her passion by producing content, through social media, training, and building communities.

Denise has a special focus on the media under representation of LGBTQ youth and marginalized communities. She developed an intergenerational oral history project with late Stonewall veterans Bob Kohler and Sylvia Rivera, The Griot Circle, LGBTQ Community Center and youth from The New Neutral Zone and FIERCE, documenting stories about safe public spaces for the LGBTQ community in New York. For several years she developed oral history and new media curriculum for the Apollo Theater, various non-profits, and the New York Department of Education. She has also produced documentaries and web based content for Rocketboom, The Post Punk Kitchen, and Firelight Media.

While based in Sydney, Australia she established herself as an accomplished digital content producer at the Inspire Foundation, a youth mental health service, where she developed a successful youth reporter program that trained diverse young people throughout Australia to create digital media content for the organization’s website reachout.com. The organization was awarded a social media award for her work in growing their YouTube presence by 90% and reaching the organizations target of engaging more young men.
