Robert Walton

My name is Robert Walton. I am the most ambitious voyager to have lived on this earth. #1. When I was just a child I was passionately fond of reading and learning of different voyages made by other great adventurers within the great volumes of my Uncle Thomas' library. #2. "These volumes were my study day and night, and my familiarity with them increased that regret which I had felt, as a child, on learning that my father's dying injunction had forbidden my uncle to allow me to embark in a seafaring life."(Page 2). #3. Six years have passed, but my uncle could not hold me back from my dreams. #4. I accompanied whalers on several expeditions to the North Sea, and there, I worked harder than any other sailor. Do not take me wrong, my family is of utmost importance; however, what is there to live for if we cannot live our dreams? #5. My hard work and diligence have paid off in that I have become the captain of my own ship and crew, and am currently leading an expedition to the North, hoping that I will set foot upon some new discovery, satiating my burning desires of knowledge. Danger and evil swarm this voyage, but this will not hinder me. Either they must kill me or withdraw and let me set sights on my goal. My dearest sister, Margaret is sure to be worried, but I will write to her, updating her of my progress. Along my journey, we picked up a stranger in the sheets of ice. All of his sleigh dogs except for one were dead, and he too was on that path. After he recovered, he told me of knowledge and how dangerous it could be. True comfort is with family back at home; however, was I to listen to him? All my years of my hard work and dedication must be put to a stop like this? I must listen to the stranger's story then determine whether it is wise to go home to my dearest sister.

Song Analysis:

My favorite song is "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC. This song has much meaning to it. Within the first few lines of the song, lead singer, Brian Johnson, shouts that he was in the middle of the railroad tracks, and there was no turning back. Within my life, there were many obstacles that have tried stop me from pursuing my dreams; however, I knew there was no turning back. He also explains he broke some rules, and for me to pursue my dreams, I had to break some rules too. I feel that this song truly describes my determination. I am just so ambitious to succeed, and I will never turn back.
