I’m a legal strategist.

With over a decade of experience as an attorney and counselor to the world’s largest enterprises, I now work with innovative startups to understand and overcome any regulatory hurdles they face. Think, for example, insurance, healthcare, blockchain and crypto, transportation, and any other area with significant federal, state, or local regulatory involvement.

As a former General Counsel and Senior Advisor to Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner, I led a team responsible for developing all legal strategies to advance the Governor’s policy initiatives. Described by Gov. Rauner as “one of the most talented and creative lawyers,” I helped build a case to change U.S. Supreme Court law on an issue of significant public importance.

I had the privilege to start my legal career as a law clerk to two distinguished, highly-regarded federal appellate judges. I then practiced as an appellate lawyer at the Jones Day law firm. There, I developed litigation strategies and then briefed and argued complex legal issues at all stages of litigation, including in international arbitration.

I currently run my own firm, DM Legal Strategy LLC, and serve as the head of legal, regulatory, and compliance at EIC, an innovative insurance startup working to restore the American Dream by removing the risks inherent in seeking higher education.

I live outside Chicago with my wife and four very young and amazing kids. We are busy, but loving every minute of it.
