Dennis Rockwell, PhD, has worked in private practice as a psychotherapist since 1994. He is licensed by the state of Florida as a clinical social worker, and currently runs an office through the Health Sciences Institute of Boca Raton. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Rockwell began his professional life in law enforcement, working as an officer with the Boynton Beach Police Department. He held positions as Public Relations Officer, Field Training Officer, and Crime Prevention Officer with the Department. He was also Agent-in-Charge of operations for the Organized Crime Bureau. Rockwell garnered considerable experience in drug awareness education, and gave presentations to chemically dependent inmates while working at the county jail. In the late 1990s, after earning his Master of Social Work from Barry University, Rockwell became a psychotherapist and addictions counselor employed at Boca House, a halfway house rehabilitation facility, treating groups and individuals using twelve-step substance abuse programs. Today, he continues to offer addiction counseling to his patients. Another professional focus of Dennis Rockwell’s work is pastoral counseling. He holds a PhD in Theocentric Counseling Psychology from La Salle University, and has been an ordained minister with the World Christianship Ministries since February 2006. Rockwell has offered religious counseling with Boca Raton Christian Center, in addition to performing wedding, baptism, and funeral services. Rockwell also has experience in multi-cultural religious counseling, including clients with Christian, Buddhist, and Jewish backgrounds. Dennis Rockwell’s preferred treatment approaches are cognitive and behavioral theories. He is currently working on another doctoral degree in behavioral medicine from Northcentral University. In treating patients, he has applied behavioral medicine, psychopharmacology, hypnosis, and many other treatment methods. Rockwell has also utilized psychodynamic and meditation/relaxation approaches.
