Derek is the Founder and Principal of D&M research - a marketing and social research agency in Sydney Australia. In addition to his stewardship of the company, Derek maintains an active role in providing research services, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge in advanced research methods to both D&M and its clients. He is a also guest post graduate lecturer at University of NSW (UNSW) School of Marketing.

Derek was formally educated as a Psychologist at UNSW, and has the additional qualification of QPMR from the Australian Market and Social Research Society.

He is a regular presenter of research findings to both the corporate and government arenas and is often asked to comment on his research in the press. He is also passionate about organisations and how they can have a positive impact on the people that make them.

Derek has won numerous industry awards particulalry for work on what really makes us tick when is comes to choosing a partner of the opposite sex.

'Like so many others I did not choose market research as a career, it chose me, and I am so glad it did! I love the variety of working on different categories and challenges every day and seeing how our work impacts the success of our clients – particularly clients that allow you to share in the role as Brand Custodian.

I am passionate about aesthetics & design, culture, proper music, the Sydney Swans and of course my family and tribe of kids (3 in all). If I wasn't in Research I would have loved to have been an Architect, Interior Decorator or a Musician. One day I want to take on a grand design project!'
