Derek Galli
An outdoor enthusiast, Derek Galli enjoys fly fishing, camping, and playing sports, especially basketball and tennis. Residing in California, Derek Galli spends his free time with his family, and takes great pleasure in teaching his children, nieces, and nephews how to play tennis. Derek Galli attended Brigham Young University-Utah and Brigham Young University-Hawaii for his undergraduate education. Derek Galli attended BYU-Hawaii on a tennis scholarship for two years, from 1984 to 1986. Derek Galli played tennis for the university and contributed to their year-end national ranking of 15th in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in 1986. In 1988, he returned to Hawaii to teach tennis at Keauhou Beach Resort in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Shortly after, Derek Galli taught tennis professionally at the Schofield Barracks Tennis Center on the island of Oahu. Derek Galli was the teaching pro at the time Schofield Barracks earned recognition as the Most Outstanding Tennis Club for Hawaii in 1989. The award was given by the United States Tennis Association to highlight the excellent programs he helped run at the tennis center. From 1991 to 1992, Derek Galli returned to Brigham Young University-Hawaii and served as the coach for the women’s tennis team. Under his guidance, Brigham Young University-Hawaii acheived a final ranking of 5th in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Two female tennis players on the team earned significant honors, and were named All-American Athletes by the NAIA.
