Derek Groves
Student, Writer, and Artist in Bellingham, Washington
Derek Groves is a communication studies student at Western Washington University. He was first drawn to the communications field after taking a class on identity and difference, leading him to favor writers such as Audre Lorde and Judith Butler. Derek is also an intern with Lydia Place, a nonprofit providing services to women and families experiencing homelessness, creating the visual merchandising and displays for their thrift store Wise Buys in downtown Bellingham.
With any moment of free time, Derek enjoys listening to smooth jazz, writing personal essays with the hopes of creating a memoir, and volunteering his time with local nonprofits that benefit people experiencing homelessness in Whatcom County.
