Derek J. Fletcher

Seattle, WA

I am an ambitious and highly motivated graduate who is excited about the opportunities and challenges that lay ahead. I am a flexible and energetic individual who is always searching for new and life enhancing encounters. I plan on becoming an expert in the field of Economic Development in order to build more sustainable and economically thriving communities.

While attending the University of Washington I became an Undergraduate Fellow, conducting independent research with the Center of American Politics and Public Policy. I have also worked as an Intern for Washington Economic Development Commission where I performed a range of duties including data collection, attending conferences, and participating in the creation of projects/proposals. Prior to attending the UW I attended South Puget Community College where I spent two honored years as the Associate Student Body President. All of these experiences combined have helped me build a strong foundation in leadership, teamwork, data manipulation, public speaking, and many other areas that make me the innovative and problem-solving person I am today.

To relax I enjoy the usual Washingtonian forms of excitement, grabbing a coffee with friends, enjoying the outdoors, and spending time on the water. When time permits, I like to travel and become immersed in new cultures. I try to live by the mantra “ work hard, play hard” and plan on enjoying life both inside and outside of my career. I am excited to begin shaping the future and leaving my mark on the hearts of the communities around the world.
