Derek Laughlin
Derek was born in Oklahoma, but grew up in the suburbs of Dallas/Fort. Worth. Derek is married to Miranda ('10). They met working in the mountains at a youth camp outside Colorado Springs.
"My conversion to Jesus Christ occurred in high school as a rowdy, boisterous yet empty 15 year old. In Christ I found the fullness of life. My wife and I are deeply excited about doing life together with believers in the city of Chicago through the joining of God in his global work of gathering the nations to Himself. I have a passion for counseling men and women with a comfort by which I have been comforted, the hope of the Gospel, through my own struggles and past. My hope for Cross Community is that we may be a people who proclaim the hope of Christ and that hearing that hope Chicagoans may be 'filled with all joy and peace in believing' (Romans 15:13)."
Derek studied business psychology at UT Dallas and is finishing the last year of his M.Div at Redeemer Seminary. After 7 years of experience in the semi-concondutor industry, he worked for Eagle Lake Camps as a teacher and mentor to teenagers. After which he joined the Operations staff of the The Village Church.
