Derrick is an experiencedSession Bass Guitarist and Session Bass Player with set of bass skills which covers most styles of bass playing. His foundation of bass playing is rooted in the Gospel scene; this quickly extended to Jazz, Blues and Rock. After extensive playing in the church and club scenes he took over from Gail Ann Dorsey as Bassist in 'Well Red'. Essentially a funk band whose second album was produced by George Clinton. He toured both of the band's albums as well as playing and co-writing on the second album.
Derrick has also gained invaluable experience performing in theatre productions. He spent time in 'The West Yorkshire Playhouse' in Leeds as a Session Bass Player (playing an acoustic bass guitar) performing 'Blues In The Night' where the band were an integral part of the play, performing from the middle of the theatre as opposed to the usual behind the scene theatre musician position. The play was set in in 1930s and musically based on Chicago Blues and Jazz. This posed Derrick a healthy challenge and was a fantastic opportunity to expand his musical growth.
