Derrick Alger is a native of Iowa with years of experience in the healthcare industry. He first became interested in the medical field due to his passion for science and admiration for his mother’s profession as a nurse. Derrick Alger earned his BSN from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, graduating Cum Laude in 2008, at which he received awards such as the Senior Nursing Award and the Junior Nursing Student of the Year.

Derrick Alger already had experience working in the medical field when he decided to attend medical school. After Coe College, he worked weekends at St. Luke’s Hospital (Cedar Rapids) in the Critical Care Unit as a response to the Iowa flood of 2008. He also worked as an RN for the former Iowa Health System (currently known as UnityPoint Health,) specializing in critical care patients.

Derrick Alger is now studying to receive his MD and MBA in health from St. Kitts' University of Medicine and Health Science. He wants to become a family physician. Outside of healthcare, Derrick is dedicated to making his community a better place and enjoys outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, and camping.
