Hey there, I'm Desiree. I'm currently in my third year at Ryerson University, in a program called Creative Industries. You may be wondering what that is/what it entails, and that's one of my favourite things about the program -- it always sparks a conversation. I get the opportunity to study the connections between creativity and commerce, specializing in the media business and the music industry. As part of this degree, I’ve had the chance to develop a wide variety of skills, including business skills (such as how to create a business/marketing plan), creative skills (like a basic understanding of a few Adobe programs), and entrepreneurial skills (including networking and personal development).
I’m incredibly passionate about what I study. Just as the nature of the creative industries is ever-changing, so are my desired paths. While I know music is where my heart lies, I’m highly adaptable and open to new opportunities - I’m not dead-set on anything except for being a constant learner.
Aside from my educational pursuits, I engage in several paid and volunteer positions that have given me the skills and experiences that are preparing me for whatever lies ahead. My involvement on my program's course union has allowed me to foster so many important connections and acquire innumerable skills. I also serve part-time; though it can get challenging and stressful, no one day (or customer) is ever alike and that's what I love about it.
Finally, in my spare time, I love to pet all the dogs (including my own 4 year old chocolate lab, Cooper), go to all the concerts/music festivals (my favourite genre is alternative rock, but my love of hip hop grows more everyday), and continue to maintain relationships with the most important people in my life. Out of all the roles I play in my life, “friend” is the most important. On that note… let’s be friends!
