Desiree Ogbedee

Melbourne, Australia

Originally from Ghana, I have been living in Melbourne for the past nine years. I am fluent in three languages and love learning about other cultures. I am self-confessed foodie who explores different cultures by experimenting with different cuisines. I describe myself as a spice connoisseur with a knack for creating authentic spice blends and one who appreciates wholesome and fresh ingredients. I love food when it is unpretentious and value full flavoured and robust cooking.

My passion for food begun in my grandmother's kitchen in Teshie, a suburb on the coast of Ghana, where I learnt traditional recipes and age-old cooking secrets. Having experienced both Ghanaian and Australian cultures has given me a creative edge, whilst my Public Health background has provided me with knowledge about eating food for health.

West African food is renowned for its robust flavours and variety. The tribal diversity in the sub-region creates a vast array of nutritious and flavourful dishes that will leave any foodie hungry for more. I shares her love for Ghanaian and West African cuisine through my work as a food consultant. I run cooking workshops and masterclasses where I provide demonstrations on the basics of Ghanaian/West African cuisine, flavour and spice combinations and how to create traditional Ghanaian and West African delicacies.

In my spare time, I love to read food blogs for inspiration, create my own signature recipes and go for nature walks.
