Des Kennedy

Des Kennedy studied at Queen's University Belfast, King's College Pennsylvania and trained on the National Theatre Directors Programme. He worked as Assistant Director to Mike Bradwell at the Bush, Mick Gordon at the Lyric Belfast and Dominic Cooke at the Royal Court

Directing credits include How the World Began (Out of Joint); White Star of the North (Lyric Belfast); God's Country (Tinderbox, Audience Choice Award, Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queen's); Between Life and Nowhere (3LD, New York); Normal (Garrick Theatre); The Prophet of Monto (Flea Theater, New York); JonnyMeister + the Stitch (Mead Theatre, Washington D.C); The Great Ramshackle Heart (Public Theater, New York); Dying City (Project Arts Centre, Dublin); Seven Jewish Children (Queen's Studio, Belfast); Salaam Mr Bush! (Rehearsed reading, Royal Court); The Last Days of Judas Iscariot (Brian Friel Theatre, Belfast); The Laramie Project (NSDF) for which he won the Bush Theatre Directing Award; Scenes from the Big Picture (Callan Theatre, Washington D.C) which was named one of the best 10 productions of the last decade by the Washington Post and nominated for a Helen Hayes Award.

As Associate: Top Girls (National tour), Our Country's Good (National tour/St.James Theatre London), Bang Bang Bang (National tour/Royal Court) all directed by Max Stafford Clark for Out of Joint.

Des is currently Associate Director of Out of Joint Theatre Company.
