Desmond Donnellan

Irvine, California

Desmond Donnellan was recently interviewed and asked what it takes to own and operate a construction company. Desmond took his time with the answer and reflected about some of the most critical elements. One thing Desmond Donnellan gave deep consideration to was the time that has to be put in on running a successful company. Here is what Desmond Donnellan had to say:
“Owning and operating a construction firm is not a five day, eight-to-five occupation. You can count on six or seven long days in the beginning when you are setting up your infrastructure, simultaneously building projects, and trying to get new deals” was some of the sage wisdom Desmond Donnellan had to offer.
“As you become more established, plan on fifty-sixty hour work weeks routinely, and often longer. Your vacation, when you get one, will no longer be a time when you can forget everything back at the office. Not all of these hours will be at the office or job site. Some will be spent at home in the evenings or on weekends, planning, reading or just mulling over business” Desmond Donnellan went on to explain.
“If you are unable or unwilling to give this amount of time to your business, reconsider starting your own business” Desmond offered. “However, for most self employed business men and women, the hours aren’t burdensome. They fly by, and the day is gone before you want it to be.”
Desmond Donnellan has been running his real estate development firm for about 13 years and always looks for a chance to help or an opportunity to give back to the community. Desmond currently works and lives in Orange County, California. Please feel free to contact Desmond Donnellan with any questions or comments.
