Detra M. Trueheart is a faith and life purpose mentor to emerging women leaders desiring to shift their beliefs and behaviors to live purposefully and lead authentically. Detra is the CEO and Founder of TrueheartSpeaks Enterprises – a lifestyle management and empowerment firm where she works with visionary women to get clear, show up authentically, get rid of the excuses, and do what it takes to Live Life IN & On Purpose™.

Detra believes in pushing past fear, going against the grain and living a more meaningful and purpose-driven life with no regrets. She knows what it’s like to achieve success, receive awards and accolades and still be unfulfilled. As a national dance competitor, former Miss Buffalo, Miss Western New York, two-time third runner up in the Miss America New York State competition, 1st runner up to Miss Black World all before the age of 25, Detra learned that success doesn’t always guarantee happiness or PURPOSE.

Believing in the power of healthy competition and presenting your BEST self during the pursuit of any goal, Detra answered an internal call to instill into young women many of the life lessons she learned throughout her time on and off the stage. In 2000, she founded the Young Miss Buffalo Pageant: Scholarship and Enrichment Program, Inc. (YMBP). This year they celebrate 14 years of helping young women become their best. During the pregnancy of her son and while completing her second master’s degree, Detra received another push in 2011 to expand her reach from girls to woman. Her first push came when she was laid off in 2009 from her job.

Knowing first hand what it means to endure job loss, financial strain, family challenges, and heartbreak, she also understands the power of creating your own reality with the thoughts you think and the words you speak. Using her more than twenty-five combined years of pageantry, performing arts, leadership, empowerment, and personal development expertise, Detra has become the ‘go to’ girl for life purpose, authenticity, and women & girls empowerment.
