I am now a Consultant with UNICEF in the Communications 4 Development department. Based in New Delhi, I am supporting projects including Meena Radio (educational programme for school children) and Ammaji videos (discussion enabling videos for women). For two years before this I worked as the Communications and Media Manager for CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation (www.civicus.org). I was based at the organization's headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa. I developed the CIVICUS Communications Strategy. I managed media at the CIVICUS World Assembly and CIVICUS Youth Assembly in Montreal, Canada. I also did a stint with the Micro Insurance Academy in India before joining UNICEF. Before this, I worked as the Regional Communications Manager with the International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies(www.ifrc.org). I oversaw 8 countries in South Asia. I was with the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement for over 4 years, including work previously with the International Committee of the Red Cross (www.icrc.org). Achievements during this time include spearheading record-breaking media coverage for the Red Cross during the SIDR cyclone in Bangladesh and supporting communications during -- and after -- the Asian tsunami. I was also exposed to conflict situations in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India and Nepal. I developed communications strategies for Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India and Maldives. In Kashmir, I successfully coordinated an educational programme for school children (called 'Exploring Humanitarian Law').
