Fact: 90% of child sexual abuse victims know their abuser

Fact: Of every 100 incidents of sexual assault, only 6 are reported to the police

Hello, I’m Devika and the purpose of this page is to aid in raising awareness about sexual violence; dismissing the stigma and talking openly is the only way to take the power away from the abusers.

Many victims of sexual abuse keep quiet because of the cultural stigma surrounding the topic. I want to create a place where people can come to read positive messages, find resources and feel free to express themselves.

This cause is relevant locally, internationally and globally because it exists everywhere. Regardless of being a first or third world country, this topic is uncomfortable for everyone.

My focus is to help individuals realize that there emotions are valid and they should speak up without concerns about if others can cope.

The following links are of organizations trying to get the conversation going.

The me too movement twitter page is a community of survivors who can tell their stories and bring attention to this conversation.

The End Violence Against Children facebook page is one of the few global initiatives where all major groups come together to focus their words, actions and resources on ending violence against children.

RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the USA’s largest anti-sexual violence organization. Their youtube page has several stories of survivors trying to raise awareness by talking about their experiences.

Please support my campaign by donating to the Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse. This organizations purpose is to “Provide leadership to impact attitudes and actions around sexual abuse and sexual assault”.
