Student and Coach in Pembroke, ON, Canada
Born and raised in Beachburg, Ontario, Canada. Devon developed a passion for education at a young age that has continued to this day. During the first few years of university, Devon would work for his father’s power skating company. This gave him firsthand experience working with children and managing groups of them in an instructional setting. In the spring, Devon worked as an EQAO tutor at Beachburg Public School. Devon was responsible for assisting teachers in preparing their students for the upcoming EQAO tests for both the grade 3 and 6 classes. Due to the school being short-staffed, Devon was the only tutor, giving him a tremendous amount of experience working in the classroom setting.
Currently, Devon is still working part-time for his father's power skating company, taking a greater role as a head instructor. He is working with children between the ages of five and fourteen. Through this experience, Devon has also learned how to convey key information to students.
Sports has played a big role in Devon’s life. Therefore, during the summers back home, Devon is a volunteer coach for a community minor softball team. This allows him to work with more children in a leadership role.
Due to experiences Devon has gained throughout his life thus far, he has been able to work with children in many different settings. He has developed a passion for the education field and is going to make a career out of teaching. To date, he has completed nearly a third of his B.Ed., and this May he will embark on the first long-term practicum before completing a professional year in 2020-1.
