From his childhood days, Devraj’s mother used to teach him Jyoti sangeet, Bishnu sangeet and folk songs. He once went to a concert of Falguni Pathak and got really inspired by her. He then promised himself that he will do music in his life.
He joined Kolaguru Music College, Tezpur at the age of 7, where Punyabrata Deva Goswami taught him Indian classical music. He also learned Jyoti sangeet, Bishnu Sangeet, Assamese Lok Geet and Bihu. He has learned from several private tutors of Meghalaya and Mumbai. He passed his Bachelor in Music from Bhatkande sangeet vidyapith University
Devraj has learned quite a few musical instruments like tabla, guitar, piano, dhol, pepa and khol. He has also learnt western vocals and western piano.
In his 7th standard he felt like composing and expressing his feelings through his own words and so he started writing poems. From class 8 onwards, he started searching for music in nature. Then he started creating songs related to the music of nature.
So far Devraj has performed in over 200 stages. He has sang, played keyboard, tabla and guitar in many of those concerts.
In 2019, he released his first song ‘Abeli’ and the music video, which was loved by many and so far he has released three songs which are being loved by lakhs of people.
The music production of Devraj’s songs are done by Melodye Mafia, one of Mumbai’s finest musician. The mixing and mastering is done by Bhupesh Saikia who works in Assamese cinemas. He works with one of the best music directors of the Assamese industry, Poran Bortoky and many more popular musicians and directors of Assam and Mumbai.
Devraj’s new single Xunali’s music video has just hit 250,000 views and counting on YouTube which has been produced by the film production house, Alchemy Pixels which works with several national and international artists.
Devraj believes that everyone has emotions and feelings in their mind. And expressing of that through words in soulful way is music. He says that most musicians have a very undisciplined mind but bringing that out in a disciplined way is music and that’s the most important responsibility of a musician.
Devraj wants to keep making music that talks about nature, people’s emotion, life and philosophy. He wants to feel everyone’s feelings and touch their heart through his music.
