Daniel Fallman

Daniel Fallman is a Full Professor of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) in the Department of Informatics at Umeå University, Sweden.

His research interests are in the confluence of HCI, design, and innovation and include:

• Improving sketching techniques for interaction designers
• New, innovative interaction technologies and styles
• Design theory and its influence, role, and application in interaction design practice
• Heavy phenomenological concepts such as embodiment, involvement, and meaning
• The philosophy of technology

Fallman has published over 60 peer-reviewed academic papers in leading international journals and conferences in the fields of HCI, Interaction Design, and Design Research, including Design-oriented Human-Computer Interaction (CHI’03), The Interaction Design Triangle (Design Issues ’08), and The New Good (CHI’11). He has given more than 40 conference keynotes, invited talks, and panels for professional and academic audiences.

In 2010, the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research named him 1 of 18 Future Research Leaders. Fallman received an Outstanding Young Researcher Award from Umeå University in 2011.
