Don

Don has over 25 years of experience as an architect. His work ranges from residential and small scale exhibit spaces to large scale mixed-use complexes in Australia, Africa and Europe. As Design Director for Hassell Studio Australia, one of the nation’s largest AE firms, Hayford provides creative direction to award-winning projects in Australia and Europe. Prior to Hassell Studio, Hayford worked for several years with Cox Architecture. His project experience includes ANZ Corporate Headquarters, Alibaba Headquarters, and Epping to Chatswood rail link. He also worked on the University of Queensland Global Change Institute with HBO+EMTB, and several projects in London with Woods Bagot. These works have been widely published in major design journals including Architectural Record, Progressive Architecture, El Croquis, A+U and GA, and have received numerous awards from AIA and Progressive Architecture. .” In 2000, Hayford work was included in "New Blood 101," a traveling exhibit of the work of 101 top Australian architects. He has taught design studios at SCI-Arc, University of Sydney, and University of Queensland, and has lectured in the Melbourne Forum for Architecture and Urban Design summer lecture series “Out There Doing It.” Hayford earned his Master of Architecture from the Graduate School of Design at University of Queensland and his Bachelor of Architecture from New York University Urban Design and Architecture.

Specialties: Broad experience in design, programming and development of projects for Education at Universities and Community Colleges.

Design Principal directing design and architectural development of projects and teams. Projects include Adelaide Festival Centre, Adelaide Oval Western Grandstand, Assaggio Trattoria Italiana Hong Kong, AXA Australia, Beirut House of Arts and Culture, Circular Quay Strategic Master Plan as well as programming and master planning. 3 projects are LEED silver or higher, 5 have won AIA awards. Other projects include 2 exhibit spaces for the Chongqing Grand Theatre and an $320M Training Facility for the Australian Navy.

Worked with team to develop design of the west wing addition to the Queensland Aquarium. Responsibilities include detailing and coordination of exterior skin, ticket booth canopy and exterior acrylic sea otter enclosure.

Worked as Project Architect and Designer on several projects including a 42 story Office Tower at Canary Wharf, London.
