Teacher in London, Ontario, Canada
Hello there! My name is Diana Hughes and I am a secondary school teacher in TVDSB. Currently, I am the Technology Enabled Learning an Teaching Contact (TeLT) for my school board where a large part of my job is working with our eLearning courses, teachers and students. I also assist with integrating the purposeful use of technology in our schools.
I have been a Geography teacher for most of my career but I have taught a large variety of subjects during my 17 years in education. I have been the Geography Department head and have taught online courses for about 8 years. Environmental Studies (when that was a teachable), Social Sciences and Geography are my teachables and although I have had some experience in Spec Ed my heart is telling me to continue to pursue Guidance. My interest in Guidance has come from developing relationships with students and working closely with our Guidance department over the years. I have also taught the GLC 2O course several times which I find very interesting. I am a Google Certified, level 1, educator and hope to continue with this as well. I have been a part of three different writing teams for various Geography courses for Technology Enabled Learning Ontario where our team developed online Geography courses for use in Ontario Publicly funded schools through their virtual learning environments.
I have two sons and spend a large amount of my free time at many arenas around southwestern Ontario but have recently traded ice rinks for soccer pitches in the same locals now that the weather has finally warmed up! Both of my sons play competitive hockey in the winter and travel soccer for one and baseball for my teenager in the summer. Honestly. I love watching them play sports that they love and wouldn't trade it for anything!
I love to travel with my family and look forward to the summer (after completing my role as an assistant admin for online summer school) when I will finally get to see a glacier when we head to Alaska. As a Geographer it has always been on my "to do" list!
I look forward to this learning experience and to learning with you all.
Since you had to include a link to something in order for this "About Me" site to work I have included a link to my Department Website at my previous school that I created.
