I grew up as a Navy "brat," moving from place to place all over the US. My small family and I called many places home -- Rhode Island, Florida, Hawaii and more. I dreamed of being a newscaster since about age 6. That's when I remember watching the Today Show with my grandfather, and him pointing to Barbara Walters telling me, "You can do what she does. Don't ever let anyone tell you you can't do something, especially not because you're a woman." He was a powerful influence. My biggest fan.
So I earned my undergraduate degree in Journalism from Syracuse University. That led to on-air work in television newsrooms at stations in Utica, NY, Rochester, NY and New Orleans, LA.
It was a rewarding, exciting career but life pulled me away to sunny southern California. Who could have known the move would bring so many adventures: raising two incredible boys, earning a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, surviving cancer and learning ways to help bring families together.
My work focuses most of my attention on families with children who have experienced loss, separation, divorce and trauma. Much of my work is in family reunification. I've also been certified in Child Trauma treatment by the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, in collaboration with the National Center for Crisis Management.
I believe in the healing power of mind and body and helping my clients discover what's meaningful in their lives. I focus much of my practice on looking for connections between the physical, social, personal and spiritual and have trained in mindfulness at Deerpark Monastery in Escondido, CA under the guidance of Thich Nhat Hanh.
