I've had a lot of different careers from retail, decorating, sewing, childcare and healthcare. Yes, I am one of those lost souls with a yearn to try everything under the sun.
But I know I've found my true calling now. Better late than never. I love to write.
I wrote when I was a tormented teenager. Unfortunately, I wasn't thinking about it as a career back then. Instead, I studied fashion, which was fun but the job market was tough. I can make a pattern and stitch up just about anything. It's just not the type of skill to market to an employer for a weekly salary.
My stories took the backseat to life and I all but forgot that I loved a good tale.
When I had my son I finally found an audience that was more than happy to listen to me. Of course it was a biased opinion of how great my stories truly were. My dear Husband overheard some crazy made-up story and wondered "where do you come up with these ideas?". His comment took me by surprise. Doesn't everyone have this ability? Apparently not.
I write everything down now and steal away moments whenever I can to fantasize and write. It makes me incredibly happy which I attribute to the fact that writing was always my true purpose. Perhaps someday it will be a paying job, but writing is a work of patience and perseverance, so only time will tell.
So, if there is any life lesson here...find your truth, what you are meant to do and follow it.
