Norwich
Born in Norfolk, England, I left school before taking A-levels, as Iacked self-confidence in my academic ability. I really enjoyed a two year secretarial course at Norwich City College, and then went on to do secretarial jobs for about eight years. A former teacher from the college held a high opinion of me and was one of three women who have coached me to aspire to more. Diana Greenwood recommended me for my first teaching post at Norwich City College. I taught secretarial courses and for the first three years could not believe my luck. I loved working with the students and I was paid - more than ever before - to do the job. Of course, circumstances changed, managers asked us to do more, the curriculum evolved and generally teaching became more onerous and the students less delightful. However, the college was very good to me and allowed me to go abroad on two occasions (Canada and the United Arab Emirates) allowing me the luxury of adventures with a secure job to return to. How lucky was that! I forget sometimes. I also gained a suitcase full of qualifications through the college, including a Bachelors in Education. Since then, I have acquired a MBA in Educational Management, plus other qualifications.
