Over the course of a career in the US Navy spanning more than two decades, CDR Diego Hernandez has garnered numerous awards and honors in recognition of his achievements both as a submarine driver and as a naval analyst. Most notably, he received the Joint Meritorious Service Medal for his naval forces analysis and evaluation work in the Office of the Secretary of Defense during 2007 and 2008, and the Navy Meritorious Service Medal for his outstanding leadership as executive officer of the USS Rhode Island from 2004 to 2006. Diego Hernandez is also a multi-time recipient of the Navy Commendation Medal.

CDR Hernandez graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and completed a master’s degree in security studies at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, which he attended on a naval scholarship. Having most recently served as commanding officer of the USS Wyoming, Diego Hernandez currently works as the deputy branch head for manpower and accounting in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations.

In his free time, CDR Hernandez participates in fundraising activities for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). He recently completed a half-Ironman triathlon, the Monticelloman, where he raised $2,700 to advance the research for a cure to blood cancers and support patients in their battle with cancer.
