Digital Cinema Destinations Corp. (NASDAQ:DCIN) is a two-year-old, New Jersey-based company that digitizes movie theaters. DCIN, also called Digiplex Destinations, currently has 73 digital movie screens, has contracted to acquire another 12, and plans to expand its presence to other areas shortly. Digital Cinema Destinations Corp. promotes new movie releases as well as classic films, live opera, family films, and ballet shows in the digital format at its theater locations. Digiplex recently launched a movie series called DigiNext with a tagline that says "Movies that Change You." Customers can watch independent features at different Digiplex theaters around Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The film selections in this series include comedies, documentaries, and dramas.
Recently, Digiplex Destinations brought the 60th Anniversary edition of Singin' in the Rain to its movie theaters. The show includes behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with cast members. Other planned movie showings for 2012 include The Royal Ballet: Swan Lake, Queen Live in Budapest, The Birds, and a Frankenstein/Bride of Frankenstein double feature.
Digiplex Destinations also screens family-friendly movies for children and their parents. A "Parent's Night Out" event took place in June of 2012 at the Rialto theater in Westfield, New Jersey, and Bloomfield 8 theater in Bloomfield, Connecticut. During the event, parents were invited to watch renowned pediatrician Dr. Harvey Karp speak about common parenting issues and share advice from his popular books. Digiplex Rialto Westfield also holds afternoon "Mommy & Me" shows for toddlers and their caregivers. The company plans to expand its weekly child-friendly shows to its other theaters.
Digital Cinema Destinations Corp. works with several charity groups in the Northeast. It sponsors the Mayo Performing Arts Center in New Jersey in addition to the Mandell Jewish Community Center and the Westfield Memorial Library.
