Director, Digital and Social Media, and Communications in Singapore
I wish there was an easy way to describe myself. There are so many aspects, so many interests, so many desires. Maybe listing them down is probably the best way.
Day job - I work in Marketing & Communications. I am currently the head of digital and global communications in a Finnish company called Wärtsilä, which is active in energy and marine. I oversee the company's global social media channels, and external/internal communications activities in all the countries where we have offices. Prior to Wärtsilä, I worked for Nokia, and even lived in Finland for 5 years. My LinkedIn profile lists my full professional bio.
Here come the interesting parts. :)
Manchester United - I've been a fan since 1981 These days, my time with MUFC is spent watching games with buddies and beer. I try not to miss any, even the 4am ones (Singapore time). In 2015, I wrote a few blog posts for a site called The Faithful MUFC. I definitely need to start blog-writing again.
Piano - I am a lounge pianist wannabe, or at the least, that's my ambition for when I retire. I dream about tinkling away on a baby grand in a hotel lounge, in an airport, or even on a cruise ship...with a glass of whiskey next to me. I started learning piano - at the ripe young age of 39 - in January 2013. I have since completed the ABRSM Grade 3 practical exam. I struggle with practice every day, but I know it's a baby step towards that 'dream' of sitting before the piano, in front of an audience, without fear.
Ideas - last year, I participated in a competition called Shell Project M, with the theme being "Car of the Future". My idea - DRIVESAFER - which aimed to eliminate the use of the mobile phone while driving, got 2nd place. In other words, I didn't win. However, participating in that competition sparked a thought in my head. Since then, I have been thinking about how to realise (bring to life) a few ideas that I have. One is of course the Shell Project M idea, while 2 others are related to the piano. It's still in the idea stage, and I have begun discussions with friends who have knowledge and experience. It is my hope that at least 1 of the ideas gets realised this year.
Investing – last year, I also became interested in investing. I have since made a couple of bad trading decisions, and have also signed up for coaching. It’s boring, and not my cup of tea, but it’s a necessity.
This isn't all, but I've hit the word limit. :P
