Dino Miele is a dedicated and innovative CIO at the District School Board of Niagara in St. Catharines, Ontario. Dino has formed numerous projects and developments with the DSBN. One of the many projects that Dino is involved in is the Educational Research and Innovation Hub (iHUB). The iHUB operates in partnership with the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN), Brock University and Niagara College. The iHUB is the first educational technology incubator in North America to be located inside a K–12 school facility. The Educational Research and Innovation Hub provides a visual and virtual space for the collaboration of educators, students, researchers, entrepreneurs, and educational technology companies to support the development of innovative educational approaches, tools and resources.

Dino is also the founder of both CONNECT and the Ultimate Gaming Challenge Niagara (UGC). CONNECT is Canada’s largest education technology conference and is the Canadian National Conference that connects educators with technology for the 21st century teaching and learning. UGC Niagara is a three day tournament that showcases how technology, including games, can help us learn.

As a member of the GTA K-12 and Niagara CIO Consortium (NCC) with Mindshare Learning, Dino recognizes that Intelligent Communities are a future reality for municipalities around the world. These cities will use the power of ubiquitous telecommunication networks, highly distributed wireless sensor technology, and intelligent management systems to solve current and future challenges and create exciting new services.

Dino has also created a state of the art data centre with disaster recovery. This data centre houses a central networking site that is connected with the NRBN and ORION and provides critical infrastructure for all broader public sector institutions. This network delivers value added capabilities that enhance education, social and economic outcomes for the Region.

Dino has also installed a centralized backup generator which allows for all internet services in the Niagara Region to work during electrical power disruptions.
