Dix Poppas

Dr. Dix Poppas, an authority in the field of pediatric urology, currently serves as an Attending Urologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and holds tenure as a Professor of Urology at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Poppas has spent his entire career in New York City. After completing his initial medical training in Virginia, he came to the city in 1990 for his residency in urology at New York Hospital, now New York-Presbyterian Hospital. In his final year of the program, Dr. Dix Poppas was named Chief Resident and subsequently joined Children’s Hospital Boston at Harvard Medical School as a Fellow in Pediatric Urology (Surgery). During this time, Dr. Poppas was also a Visiting Fellow in Urology at the Cornell University Medical Center. After obtaining his medical license in 1996, Dr. Dix Poppas accepted a position as an Assistant Professor of Urology at Cornell University Medical Center and became an Assistant Attending Urologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Currently, Dr. Dix Poppas contributes to several separate departments as a Professor of Urology. Dr. Poppas has continued to grow in his role with New York-Presbyterian Hospital as well, now functioning as an Attending Urologist and the Chief of Pediatric Urology.

Since earning his medical license in 1996, Dr. Dix Poppas has led the research efforts at the Laboratory for Minimally Invasive Surgery and the Pediatric Urology Basic Science Research Laboratory. Through the years, Dr. Poppas has directed millions of dollars in research and served as the catalyst for the development of innovative, patented technologies that improve wound closure after surgery. He continues to work on perfecting various procedures and techniques utilized during urologic surgery.

An alumnus of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Dr. Dix Poppas graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Dr. Poppas earned his Doctor of Medicine from Eastern Virginia Medical School, where he performed his internship and residency in general surgery. In addition to these degrees, Dr. Dix Poppas holds three certificates from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a Paramedic Degree from the VCU Medical College of Virginia.
