While practising pranayama, instead of “breathe out”, my guru says “let go”. When I hear her say that, I feel so light, almost instantly. The way these simple monosyllables set me free, releasing my entire burden is astonishing. Burden of jealousy, greed and grudge that I choose to carry.
I believe every moment comes with a choice. A choice of retaining or letting go. Retaining will cage me and shrink me with time. Letting go will expand me, set me free and make my present moment vast, so vast that I can live in it wholly, moment after moment.
But letting go isn’t an easy choice to make. It requires courage and wisdom to sit with my ego and negotiate with it. Make it realize that it will gift me with the most wonderful feeling of liberation. Liberation from the clutches of past as well as from the uncertainties of future.
So every time I face a situation, I request myself to let go.
Let go, so I do not shrink.
Let go, so I can fly.
