DJ PUMPKIN
Artist, Musician, and Teacher in Manhattan, New York
Pumpkin is the name, and music is his game. Raised in the city that never sleeps, Pumpkin grew up in the streets of Brooklyn, NY. Like most DJ’s, his first musical influences was by his parents, His Mother German Jewish who enjoyed listening to artists such as Chaka Khan and Tina Marie, and his stepfather on the other hand who is African-American, who listened to Jazz, Soul, and House Music. In the mid 90’s, Pumpkin connected to House Music by dancing; he was only 17 years old when he arrived to the Limelight, and from that moment on, the Limelight changed his life. Pumpkin started battling in cyphers by b-boying and free styling, and doing his famous Wind-Mills in clubs such as The Tunnel, Club USA, Palladium, Roxy, Sound Factory, Expo's, Shelter, Discotheque, Systems, Deco's, Vertigo, Mai Tai, and Save the Robots. His influences are DJ’s such as Merritt, Erick Morillo, Boris, Victor Calderon, Tony Touch, Todd Terry, and Louie Vega to name a few.In 2001, Pumpkin began vinyl shopping, and started DJing. He found himself in a paradox between his love for dancing and his love for DJing. Pumpkin decided to marry both passions to express what the dance-floor is missing. He played at popular clubs in New York such as Discotheque, Expo’s, Hard Candy, and 40/40. He also had the opportunity to play at Palifrito bar in Dominican Republic. In 2005 and current, Pumpkin landed a contract with the world’s famous department store in New York City, called Macy’s. He now DJ’s for all holiday events, and private events for Macy’s. Having this opportunity, it allows Pumpkin to play all genres, such as Old School and New School Hip-Hop, Reggae, R&B;, Soul, Soca, Reggaeton, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Disco, Funk, Pop, Top 40, 80’s, 90’s, and of course Underground House Music. In 2012, Pumpkin hit another opportunity to play at “The FunkBox NYC Party”, with resident DJ Tony Touch (Sullivan Room, The Gallery/LPR). Pumpkin has also played at venues such as Fes Down Casablanca, Club Deep, Sapphire Lounge NYC, The Spot, Lil Charlie's, and Tuff City in the Bronx. In 2015, Pumpkin landed a contract to perform at the Jacob Javit Center for the Motorcycle event in NYC. Pumpkin is also DJing and curating at his own Pop Art and Graffiti events known as “Love it, or Hate It” in the NYC.Pumpkin’s main goal is not be a one-dimensional DJ, but to be remembered by how he can play all genres and rock a party, and to continue rocking the parties!
