Originally a passionate mathematics teacher with a strong interest in languages, IT, curriculum, and pretty much anything to do with learning, I have now moved into school leadership. Currently I am the Head of Secondary at Hanoi International School.
I firmly believe that our role as educators is to serve as guides for those who learn with us. Not because we know where they need to go, nor because we have all the answers, but because we can help them develop the skills they need. We don’t know what “tomorrow” will look like, and we cannot hope to keep up with “progress”, but we can help them develop into well-balanced individuals with a set of values which, although they may differ from ours, will guide their actions. We can help them become self-confident individuals with an awareness of how they impact the world around them and how it impacts on them; keen learners who will create their own definitions of “success”. People who will decide what “progress” means, rather than being victims of progress.
As a school leader, I believe that my role is to create an environment that allows for and promotes innovation and creativity, providing opportunities for others to find and develop their own strengths.
