Danielle Kennedy
Belfast, N Ireland, United Kingdom
With a background in psychology, graduating in 2015 with a 2:1 Bsc honours degree from Ulster University, I went on to further my education by attending Queens University Belfast. I currently study Animal Behaviour and Welfare (MSc) and will graduate in 2016.
I have completed an undergraduate dissertation of high standard, working alongside faculty from Ulster University. I have professional experience working for 10 months during my degree in an animal welfare setting. With this I gained a diploma in professional practice.
I have been successful in having the ability of balancing various areas of my life with my academic career. I have been involved with extrac curricular activities throughout university such as sports and working experience for the students union. Whilst also having a part-time job in the public sector.
I had had the opportunity to work abroad in Pennsylvania USA for the summers of 2013 and 2014. With this experience, I have been fortunate to make contacts in various areas around the globe. I hope to eventually move to North America in the future. Combining my love for travel along with my love for science.
My passion lies with canines. Humans rely on dogs for various reasons. My own specific area of interest is the injustice of Breed Specific Legislation laws. I am an advocate for pitbull type breeds. This became of interest during my placement year during university. I saw the I prejudice people had of staffordshire terriers, which led to my project during my work experience investigating public opinion of breeds and rehoming rates of dogs. The work of Rebecca Corry (stand up for pits foundation) has inspired me to achieve a high academic career in order to one day make a difference in this area.
