Doctor Buckles

West Hollywood, California, United States

Dr. Louis Buchhold is pink card carrying gay overachiever who wears his heart on his sleeve. Amassing educational degrees is his particular compulsion. He has no less than four degrees – a Bachelors in Art, with special emphasis on life drawing, a Doctor of Education in Counseling Psychology, a Masters in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling, and a Masters in Art Therapy. He also trained at the Stanford University Department of Psychiatry Drug and Alcohol Clinic while launching his career as an advocate and social therapist for gang-affiliated mothers and at-risk youth as well as homeless populations and people with AIDS/HIV. Currently he is a Chemical Dependency Recovery Specialist working with licensed professional populations.

As if overachieving in academics wasn’t enough he had a first career in studio art, advertising/marketing, publication design, and is a lifelong artist and advocate. He recently became active in collaborative environmental and experimental art using a variety of new media (trans media). He has volunteered in many capacities at art institutions and nonprofit organizations including for Gay and Lesbian Adolescent Social Services (GLASS), Outfest (LGBT Film Festival), Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), City of West Hollywood Arts Commission, and Chris Brownlie Hospice.

Buchhold is an adventurer with an avid fascination for human proclivities. One proclivity brought him his moniker DoctorBuckles. Clients repeatedly call asking for Doctor Buckles, which stuck amongst his clients, colleagues and peers. He laughs when asked what it means because it blurs the boundary between professional, and gay artist, and keeps people guessing. He lives in the hub of Boystown in West Hollywood, California.
