Yeast infection in men can be a serious condition that can cause complications far more dangerous than the simple irritation that is most widely associated with this disease. Yeast infection in men and women is caused by the abnormal growth of fungi, microorganisms that are naturally present in our bodies. These microorganisms can multiply explosively in certain conditions, usually when the natural balance of our internal flora is disturbed. This leads to the infection of the regions of the body which offer the best conditions for the development of yeasts, namely the mouth and the genitals. A body with a weak immune system can be a prime target for fungi infections, because the weak immune response allows the yeast infection to spread. Persons with high risk to develop yeast infections include people with chronic diseases such as AIDS, diabetes or cancer.

Eating disorders – irregular eating or following a bad diet can disrupt the balance of the internal flora and cause a fungi outbreak. Also the excessive consumption of certain foods such as starch rich products – wheat, corn and peanuts, alcohol and especially beer will increase the acidity in the intestines and allow the growth of fungi.

Unprotected sexual contact with a yeast infected partner is a common cause of male yeast infection. Also using condoms treated with certain spermicides is a risk factor for an outbreak.
