After experiencing drug and mental health challenges from a young age, I’ve been involved with my local trust as a volunteer and independent consultant (Non Profit)
I’m also a member of the East of England Citizens Senate which was one of the first to be established and continues to lead the way in my opinion
I was on the steering group of nine “Experts by Experience” working on the Barker Commission which sought to advice government on the Future of Health & Social Care chaired by economist Dame Kate Barker.
Although The Barker Commission was independent from The Kings Fund my involvement was initiated through them as a first for patient involment and set the bar high for including Experts by Experience in the development of such an important report, which I was very proud to be a part of.
I’ve worked as an “Expert By Experience” and a “Patient Leader” for my trust CPFT including Recovery College East and more recently the trusts Suicide Strategy which is currently in development.
I’ve spoken at various events and I also deliver social media training to staff and patients alike as I believe this is a vital tool in making things happen.
A “Patient Leader” leads by example, inspires others and affects change through sharing their lived experience combined with the essential leadership skills needed to influence real change as equal partners.
I’ve met some inspirational Patient Leaders whom have inspired me and one day I hope I can inspire others to get involved as I have done.
I’ve overcome much adversity and have accessed services over much of my lifetime which has given me valuable insight that I hope to share with others.
I love learning and developing my leadership skills and aspire to lead change of services at strategic level in partnership with system leaders so these services can be greatly improved upon.
After finally beating drug and alcohol addiction in 2007 I continue to rebuild my life and grow in confidence that I can one day become the successful person I want to be, especially if that includes helping others along the way!
