“Members of the jury, opposing counsel, and your honor my name is Dominic Anderson, and I will be playing the role of CJ Morgan.”
I wanted to be an honorable witness so bad. I wanted to be recognized so bad. I wanted to be seen so bad. Really bad. It’s a natural feeling to be desired, in one way or another. It’s why I joined mock trial, to be important. An MVP. Most valuable witness.
“Members of the jury, what's up?”
I remember the feeling I had that night when our names weren’t called. At heart I’m a winner. I hate losing and that's what happened last year. We lost. 0-3. Every single round. But this year was different. I was going to win something, no matter what.
“Opposing counsel, what’s poppin?”
I’m usually a pretty lazy person and this wasn’t very different. I knew that I wanted to win, I knew how to win, I just didn’t have the discipline to achieve that. I was just meandering my way around, hoping that I’d end up in the right place, or in a good place if I had no clue what a right place would be. And I somehow managed to end up in a place I didn’t know was possible
“Your honor, what's good?”
In order to be an honorable witness, I needed to act my ass off. But there was one simple problem. I didn’t know how to act. And for my guy I needed to act out a lot. I mean CJ Morgan is a con man. A trickster. A fraudster. The way he goes through his crimes is so casual. He doesn’t seem to take anything serious. He was so aloof. I mean a con man, testifying in court is really something. I mean like this guy's entire inclusion in the case gotta be some joke like… wait.
“Members of the jury, what’s up? Opposing counsel, what’s poppin? Your honor, what’s good? My name is Dominic Anderson, and I am CJ Morgan.”
I think I know how I’m gonna win it now.
