Dominick Ricci

Dominick Ricci, MD, held the position of Senior Specialist of Professional Education and Medical Manager of Global Medical Affairs at Shire plc, a pharmaceutical company, from 2006 to 2009. In this position, he served in the area of strategic planning for medical affairs. He worked to identify, build, and leverage relationships with regional and national industry and academic leaders. Dr. Dominick Ricci also provided post-market product messaging and positioning for new drugs developed by Shire. In 2007, Dr. Dominick Ricci worked on projects that secured a newly launched drug a place in a large healthcare system’s formulary, which resulted in increased demand and sales. In less than two years, Shire moved into the number two position as market leader for this drug. Dr. Dominick Ricci holds a medical degree from Complutense University of Madrid. He performed his residency in internal medicine at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, New York. His subsequent career experience incorporates his knowledge of medical education, medical affairs, and new business development. From 2001 to 2005, Dr. Dominick Ricci operated his own pharmaceutical consulting firm, Dominick Ricci, MD. This company specialized in medical marketing integration, incorporating clinical trial data into product positioning and market messaging. This company developed market and clinical strategies for the definitive Phase 3 trials of two new drugs. His work on the development and launch of a drug to treat inflammatory bowel disease led its manufacturer to a position as challenger to the market leader in that category. Over his 17 years of experience integrating medicine and marketing, Dr. Dominick Ricci has successfully managed the debuts of a number of new drugs. Dr. Ricci combines research and development skills and knowledge of medical affairs with expertise in pre-launch market conditioning and in developing peer-to-peer sharing among academic and industry leaders. Dominick Ricci, MD, supports several worthwhile charities including the American Cancer Society, Inc., Make-A-Wish Foundation of America, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Church of Saint Isidore, and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. He has also volunteered personal time to work with the American Cancer Society.
