Donal O Mahony
I'm 48 a bachelor (and a Corkman!) so I can take a holiday at short notice whenever I choose.
I travelled to Dublin by train from Kent station in Cork. I had a burger+chips meal at Supermac in Heuston station followed by the first of many pints of Guinness (in the pub beside the station). At about 6pm, I got a Luas tram to the Generator hostel by Smithfield stop. I stayed there for two nights (12 euro x 2 = 24 euro) . It was fine. There's a cheap bar in it. I bought a pint of Fosters for 3.50 e followed by a pint of Bulmers fro 4.50 e. I walked to the Church pub/nightclub about 10+ minutes away. I had 2 pints of Guinness @ 5 euro. I had a chicken wrap meal in the McDonalds beside it for about 7.50. Then I walked to the Arlington hotel by O'Connell bridge and enjoyed a night of live Irish music and dance until past 11pm. I had 4 pints of Guinness @5 euro. ( spent about 90 euro that first day and night. )
After a good nights sleep, I went to the eating area to enjoy a good breakfast for 4 euro ata about 9am. I went on a walk of Dublin at 10.30am. My groups guide Eleanor was in great form and for nearly 4 hours she told us amazing things about historical activities connected with Ireland's capital city. For her trouble, I gave her 5 euro. (NB - I am unemployed!) Some of us went to O'Neill's 300 year-old pub opp the main tourist office for a special meal deal for those who went on the walk. It was gr8. 10 euro for a big meal & a soft drink. I bought a pint of O'Hara's stout afterwards (5.70e approx). I then walked to O'Connell street and had a pint of Guinness in Madigan's pub beside the Savoy cinema (4.50e). I felt very tired and so retired to my hostel bed by 8pm. I finished a good book in bed before have a good second nights sleep from 10.30pm.
I arose at 8.30am approx and soon afterwards enjoyed another breakfast (4 euro) in the Generator hostel. I signed out at 11am and left my luggage in a semi-secure locker room. I got a Luas tram to the bus station (Busaras) stop near Connolly station. I walked to to Jacob's Inn hostel and paid for 3 nights b+b. I received an email in May inviting me to stay for 3 nights for the price of 2. I paid 28 euro. 3-4-2 @ 14 euro per night. Then I went to Robert Reide's pub a minute away and enjoyed 2 pints of Guinness (9 e) and a large open sandwidge (10 e).
