Donald Robbins
President and Founder of Robbins Financial Group in North Carolina
Donald Robbins, LUTCF, is the President and founder of Robbins Financial Group, LLC (RFG), a wealth management firm in Charlotte, North Carolina, serving high-net-worth individuals, families, and business owners. For more than two decades, he has maintained that an advisor should answer to the client. This belief has shaped how RFG operates, chooses partners, and manages client relationships.
He studied economics at Elon University, where he also competed as a college athlete. He earned his bachelor's degree in three years and obtained his North Carolina insurance license during an internship. After graduating, he returned to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and became a financial advisor at MetLife. He chose its entrepreneurial model over a salaried brokerage position and has never held a salaried position since. He received MetLife's Rookie of the Year award in 2001 and later earned Top Producer honors.
In February 2005, he founded RFG after reaching top advisor status at two of the country's largest life insurers¹. His approach emphasized accountability to clients and the importance of building institutions that manage client capital with a long-term perspective.
Following a multi-year due diligence process, he moved the practice to MML Investors Services, LLC in March 2015. All 321 client households he asked to transfer followed him. RFG has since grown more than fivefold and expanded its team with professionals in operations, advisory, and consulting roles. The firm acquired Executive Benefits International in 2023, broadening its executive benefits capabilities.
During 26 years of practice, Financial Advisor Don Robbins has advised athletic directors, professional athletes, entrepreneurs, executives, and physicians. His areas of focus include wealth management, trust and estate planning, executive deferred compensation strategies, tax mitigation, retirement income planning, and business succession planning. His team coordinates with attorneys, accountants, and specialists so clients can address business, investment, estate, and other financial matters through a cohesive strategy.
Financial Advisor Donald Robbins continues to lead RFG by emphasizing client interests, long-term planning, professional coordination, and relationships that have remained important throughout the firm's growth.
