Toronto, Ontario, Canada
I'm a results-focused executive and business lawyer. I have experience in assisting early-stage, rapidly growing businesses.
I am comfortable in dealing with issues faced by businesses with innovative or disruptive business models, including those utilizing digital distribution and those creating technology and digital content.
I am currently providing advice to organizations involved in digital media. I also currently teach the "Game Business" course to students in the Game Design Program (Postgraduate) in George Brown College’s School of Design. I also lecture at Ryerson University and the University of Toronto’s law school and speak frequently at industry conferences. I recently spent two years as the CEO of Interactive Ontario, a not-for-profit trade association advocating on behalf of Ontario’s interactive digital media businesses.
I have significant private practice and in-house commercial and legal experience in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, information technology, corporate governance, licensing, privacy, employment and securities law.
My experience in operating businesses includes having served as the COO for a company developing an online platform, the COO and Studio General Manager for a videogame developer, and the VP of Legal and Business Affairs for a mobile application and cross-platform software developer. I have been credited on ten console and PC video game titles and served as the interactive producer on the Gemini-nominated Lost Girl transmedia project.
