When it comes to balancing responsibilities, Donna Eacho has a great deal of experience. As the wife of the U.S. ambassador to Austria, she was responsible for hosting and organizing hundreds of official events. From overseeing the guest lists to arranging the menu and seating plans, Donna Eacho put on small dinners as well as larger gatherings with more than 1,000 guests. She also provided overnight accommodations to some guests who were traveling from other regions.
Beyond hosting events, Ms. Eacho managed the ambassador’s official residence. This required her to interview, hire, and dismiss staff members; oversee property maintenance and repairs; and ensure furnishings within the historic home were cleaned and kept in excellent condition.
Additionally, Donna Eacho promoted U.S. culture to the people of Austria. She attended social events, gave lectures to various Austrian groups, and took many tours of the country. Despite her busy schedule, she also chronicled her experiences on a blog about life in Austria.
