Dr. Doug Berger is one of the few therapists in Tokyo who is bilingual in both English and Japanese. Dr. Berger offers his psychotherapy and psychological counseling services to English-speaking foreigners visiting and living in Tokyo, as well as for local Japanese patients. Dr. Berger is located in the Shibuya-Ebisu, Meguro-ku, Shibuya-ku, Setagaya-ku, Minato-ku area of central Tokyo.
Dr. Berger offers a full range of therapeutic services in both English and Japanese including, individual mental health counseling, marriage counseling, couples counseling-particularly Japanese-Western couples, divorce counseling, life and career coaching, child and adolescent counseling, family therapy, and group psychotherapy.
After earning his Medical Doctor’s degree from New York Medical College, Dr. Berger went on to complete a four-year psychiatry residency program at the New York Medical College Department of Psychiatry and qualified as an American Board-Certified Psychiatrist.
Dr. Doug Berger also completed a fellowship in Psychosomatic Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, USA. He later served as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry.
In addition to holding Psychiatric Certificate from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Berger also has a Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo School of Medicine, which he received for psychiatric research completed while he was at the Tokyo University Department of Psychosomatic Medicine.
Dr. Doug Berger maintains the standards of the American Psychiatric Association and supplements his clinical work with continuing studies in order to provide the highest-quality of care possible to his patients.
Dr. Berger’s ability to speak Japanese also allows him to facilitate regular psychotherapy for the local community in Japan.
