DOUGIE THOMAS AKA DOUGIE JAMES

BIOGRAPHY

Everyone thinks they can sing Soul, and let’s be honest, nearly everyone has. Few are as qualified, in every sense, as Dougie James.

Dougie started singing at the age of 14, by 19 he was supporting Stevie Wonder in the Georgian Club in Salford and The Moody Blues in Sheffield. Success continued for Dougie, he joined Michael Jackson and the Jackson Five on the Peacock Tour in 1979 with his band ‘The Soul Train’ and in the 1980’s he worked with Ben E King, Frank Sinatra, Edwin Starr and Roy Orbson to name but a few. By this time Dougie was one of the most booked acts in the UK, singing on up to seven gigs a night. Michael Jackson said Dougie was the best support he ever had.

Four decades of heartfelt performances which always included emotion filled ballads and timeless soul classics gave him the title of Manchester’s very own ‘Master Of Soul’. In 2005 as part of the Dougie James Soul Train comeback tour Dougie supported James Brown at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall. His band ‘The Soul Train’ has featured some well known stars from the North West, they include the late ‘Paul Young’ from Mike and The Mechanics / Sad Café. Other band members include players from Dire Straits, 10cc and a couple of special appearances by ‘Lisa Stansfield’.

Still going and not stopping, Dougie takes some time out to help his three sons he called "The Dougettes", all three are TV personalties in their own right Ryan Thomas, Adam Thomas and Scott Thomas.

Recently Dougie and his sons recorded a TV series in India “called Absolutely India - Mancs in Mumbai”
